One of the most appealing things about fantasy and paranormal is that it usually takes place in a fantastic and imaginative world. The mention of names like Middle Earth, Midkemia, Westeros, or Narnia brings up vivid images in a reader’s mind. But building a rich and vivid world takes a level of visual creativity that can be daunting to a writer.

How do you get your reader to feel the stones of your New World? How do you get him or her to feel the landscape and the world as if it were a real thing? How do you show your reader the world when all you have is words to explain it with? How do you show that your contemporary world is different?

The goal of worldbuilding is to create the context for a story. Consistency is an important element, since the world provides a foundation for the action of a story.

In this class, we’ll unveil the worldbuilding secrets of famous authors and learn techniques to build our own worlds to their creative best.

How nice that he A) read my article and B) commented back and me and C) actually liked it and D) it helped him in some way. It’s always exciting to get feedback from your readers and you always want to leave yourself open for comments, whether positive, constructive, or negative.

All comments can help you in some way as a writer, if you listen. And learning to really listen is not easy and it’s all part of being a writer, something we writers have to teach ourselves and you can’t just read it and say, “I’m going to really listen.” I mean, you can, but it is something you have to do, over and over again, before it really becomes a part of your writing skill set.

In traditional Chinese culture, qi (also chi or ch’i) is an active principle forming part of any living thing. Qi is frequently translated as “energy flow”, and is often compared to Western notions of energeia or élan vital (vitalism), as well as the yogic notion of prana and pranayama. The literal translation of “qi” is air, breath, or gas.

The ancient Chinese described it as “life-force”. They believed qi permeated everything and linked the their surroundings together.

At the end of this workshop, you will be meditating and moving your way to a healthier muse, body, and mind.

The audience for this workshop are writers who want to improve mind, body, and muse without breaking a leg, breaking a sweat, or breaking the bank. There is no pre-requisite for this workshop except a desire to become more creative and healthy.
